DIY: Wedding Flowers

Wedding Flowers $$

Savings $260 DIY Costs $210
This project is great for simple, elegant bridal bouquets.
Cheers to saving money on flowers and getting your bridesmaids involved ;)

Wedding Flowers are beautiful but they can be pricey! This project is for the DIY-er who has simple design in mind and/or they would rather spend the money on {insert anything here} vs the flowers ;)

I knew I wanted roses and to do it on a budget! So I practiced a few times, ordered my flowers in bulk from Whole Blossoms and it turned out beautiful! We made 1 Bridal Bouquet, 3 Bridemaids Bouquets, 5 hand corsages and 7 boutineers. We did use the bouquets as Head Table Decor too! Below I will show you how to make the Bouquets!

I used White Ohara Blushing Beauty Garden Roses from @WholeBlossoms

LET'S DO IT!
TIPS BEFORE YOU START:
Practice weeks in advance
Timing is key! Read the flower description on @wholeblossoms very carefully to see the optimal time between delivery and event date
IE: my roses came closed up and took about 1 day to open and lasted for 5 days after that
Form the bouquets in front of a mirror so you can make sure it looks good from every angle
Storing After Delivery

Practice Round

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Floral Wire
- Wire Cutters
- Buckets to hold flowers when they arrive at your house
- Vases to store the day of
- Electrical tape (yep)
- Ribbon to go around the base of the flowers (cover up that electrical tape)
- Glue Gun (to affix ribbon)
- Practice Flowers for your trial run

PREP WORK:
1) Practice ~about 4 months before the wedding
    - Head to local Trader Joes or grocer to get a cheaper version of the flowers
    - If your Bridesmaids Bouquets are different from Bridal Bouquet then get a practice set for those too!
       - Things you need to accomplish:
*What Size do you want each Bouquet?
                    Suggested for Large Roses
                    Bridal: 24 roses
                    Bridesmaids: 14 roses
*How many flowers do you need to create this look?
2) Order Flowers & Go Shopping for Ribbon ~about 3 months before the wedding
3) Delivery Prep
    - Have your buckets filled with water and store those flowers until the day before your event, the roses I used were stored in buckets in our shower
4) Day Before the "BIG DAY"
    - Follow "Forming the Bouquets Steps" below
    - Store in vases with a tiny amount of water, you want the flowers to get nutrients but you don't want the water to seep up into the ribbon

FORMING THE BOUQUET:
Start with 1st flower - this will be your center most flower, you are going to add another flower slightly below this one, add and rotate the flowers so they start to look integrated and not just place, add and twist/rotate, add twist/
Check in the mirror- are you liking the shape?
It's easy to start over so don't be defeated.
Get a bridesmaid to help with this next step-
            Wrap with electrical tape:
Leave 1 inch of stem open on the bottom and 1 inch of stem on the top - you don't want to suffocate the flowers
Wrap with Ribbon & secure with hot glue gun!

Isn't she lovely!

Breakdown of Costs:
Day of Roses $170
Practice Roses $20
Ribbon, Floral Wire & Electrical Tape $12
Glue Gun $8

Have you ever made your own floral arrangement ? I’d love to see!
