DIY: Light Fixture Upgrade

Light Fixture Spray Paint Update $

Savings $120 DIY Costs $32
This project adds life to "just another light fixture".
Cheers to not having to buy a brand new light fixture and saving the money for {you name it}.

Why are light fixtures so expensive?! Or maybe they aren't, but the fact that you need so many to complete your house... even $150 x 4 rooms = SIX hundred dollars makes me want to cringe a bit. Here is my tip: splurge on a FEW statement lights and then get creative! Garage sale, reuse the ones you replaced or DIY with this easy upgrade.

My latest inspiration came from my neighbors awesome house, where her style is more rustic modern (if that is such a thing). Her home came with the same lighting package (because we are in new construction) but hers is MATTE BLACK vs ours is Silver [Chrome/Stainless Steel]
Which was SOOO MUUCCHHH COOLER!

We've updated a few fixtures already and I have been meaning to sell the ones we replaced but I haven't got around to it. Good thing, because I'm going to show you how I updated the stainless steel fixture below to MATTE BLACK! Once it has been revived, its new home will be in the office.

I used Matte Black spray paint, removed the glass cylinders and updated the bulbs to give this fixture a more contemporary feel!
LET'S DO IT!
TIPS BEFORE YOU START:
Shake the spray paint continually! Like DON'T STOP!
Less is more, its easier to add paint than to cover up drip marks

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
    - Spray Paint
    - Painters Tape to cover light bulb holes & wiring
    - Tarp
    - Wire Cutters (depends if your light needs to have the height adjusted or not)
    - Baby Wipe/ Wipe rag in case the paint "pools" - just wipe away and re-paint
    - New Bulbs (or use your old ones)

THE WORK:
1) Set Up
    - Lay tarp in garage or outdoor space
    - Use painters tape to cover areas where you don't want paint to get into!
2) Spray It Baby
    - Start with the bottom side & spray 1 light coat, let it dry and repeat until covered
    - Spray the chain at various points in time, just remember to coat it all
    - Flip over and paint, repeat, paint, repeat
3) Hand & Admire
    - It's always way hard than it looks to hang a light so first make sure you turn the breaker off and get professional help!
    - Replace bulbs!

Isn't She Lovely?
Took about 2 days to paint/dry and a week to decide on light bulbs!
Breakdown of Costs:
Spray Paint $6
Bulbs $26 (had to get 2 packs) round @lowes
*New bulbs on the way @amazon - stay tuned
